I’m sure you can all answer “yes” to this question…
Have you seen a digital sign recently?
But I bet the majority of you won’t be able to recall what was showing on the screen! And if you weren’t engaged with the message, you would be right to think what’s the point of using digital signage in the first place.
The point is simply one of good content! OK we all know that even a team of world-class designers can’t create spectacular content 100% of the time. But there are some important content rules that can significantly improve the success of digital signage. Follow them and you can be sure that your message will be the one that’s remembered.
Content Is Key!
We really cannot stress this enough, the most advanced signage systems in the world will ultimately fail if you put hour-long PowerPoint presentations on them.
10 Simple Tips for Great Content:
Make people want to look – give people information they want to see.
Keep it short & snappy – avoid long videos or wordy messages.
Make it memorable – group key phrases or concepts together. Repeat important words and phrases.
Avoid stale content – change your content regularly, keep it fresh, relevant and eye-catching.
Don’t rely on audio – if you’re making or commissioning a video, make sure it gets the message across with or without sound.
Don’t forget the Call To Actions – what do you ultimately want your viewers to do?
Use sensible fonts – use sans-serif fonts and large font sizes so that viewers can read your message at-a-glance.
Pictures – use imagery and symbols that are relevant to the viewer.
Reuse existing content – to help get you started use some of those archived photos, website content, presentations, already created videos and ads, product promotions or employee communications.
Gimmicks can work – people like some gimmicks, do simple things like changing your content for Christmas, Easter and Halloween.
