New version of TANDBERG's Management Suite (TMS) (1st April 2008)

TANDBERG has introduced a new version of its video management suite, featuring automatic upgrades for video conferencing endpoints and infrastructure software.

With the latest software in use at all times, IT administrators can protect their existing and future Telepresence and high-definition (HD) video conferencing investments, while users are assured of the latest features and functionality.

TANDBERG Management Suite (TMS) - a video management platform providing centralized management, diagnostics, monitoring and scheduling options for video conferencing networks - now supports Polycom HDX endpoints and TANDBERG Codian Multipoint Control Units (MCUs).

As with previous TMS versions, this new version of the management suite supports Sony, Radvision, Cisco, Aethra, VTEl, and additional Polycom product lines. Organizations with multi-vendor environments can now centrally and efficiently manage video networks. This becomes, critical as video is deployed enterprise-wide as an integral part of unified communications.

One satisfied user is Pat Crawford, coordinator for distance learning and telecommunications, Texas Education Service Center Region XI, in Fort Worth, Texas. He said: “TANDBERG Management Suite has the broadest multi-vendor support in the industry, a factor that is crucial as we monitor hundreds of endpoints and bridges from multiple vendors. TANDBERG Management Suite ensures the best possible experience for users in our 80 school districts while reducing the concerns of our IT administrators.”

Peter Nutley, director of global product marketing, TANDBERG said: “The importance of central video network management grows as the number and distribution of videoconferencing systems increases rapidly within enterprises. The new version of our TANDBERG management suite further decreases the burden on support staff and lowers the total cost of ownership for video networks.”

High Definition is the newest set of standards for high quality video conferencing. High Definition standards have been defined by the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) as picture resolutions of 720p and 1080i/1080p. High Definition has a refresh rate of 24,25,30,50, 60 frames per second and a resolution image of 1280x720 pixels or 1920x1080 pixels. The higher number of pixels translates into sharper and clearer pictures. The higher refresh rate results in less flickering to the human eye. High Definition uses the progressive scan format rather than interlacing, treating the entire video image as one frame and does not suffer from jagged edges in the picture.
