TANDBERG Codian MSE 8321 Gateway (22nd January 2008)

TANDBERG®, a leading global provider of telepresence, high-definition videoconferencing and mobile video solutions, today launched the TANDBERG Codian MSE 8321 gateway, enabling organizations to hold up to 1,000 concurrent videoconferencing calls between IP (Internet Protocol) and ISDN. Both service providers and large enterprises will now have the flexibility to deliver a variety of services at an unprecedented level, worldwide.

The TANDBERG Codian MSE 8000 Series is a single-chassis solution that provides multiple and interchangeable functions, including gateway, multipoint conferencing, recording and supervisor blades.

Today's enhancements to the MSE 8000 Series allows it to support up to 72 ISDN primary rate interfaces in a single chassis, making it the highest capacity, high-definition ISDN gateway in the market. The TANDBERG Codian MSE 8000 Series can now support:

Up to 1,000 videoconferencing calls between ISDN and IP, or up to 180 videoconferencing calls in HD between ISDN and IP – a threefold increase in the number of video calls over the previous MSE 8310 gateway capabilities
Eight PRI ports per blade – doubling the number of connections per blade
Support for nine ISDN blades – four more than the previous model
Future plans include upgrading multipoint to support HD. This all-in-one solution will have the ability to connect 180 concurrent videoconferencing participants, through Universal Port™ technology, with individually optimized continuous presence full frame rate high-definition videoconferencing.

"With increased demand from our customers for high-quality videoconferencing, the carrier-grade Codian gateway from TANDBERG ensures we can consistently offer the most scalable and reliable solution," said Christopher J. Bell, Vice President, Engineering, Providea Inc.

"The enhancements to the MSE 8000 Series also reinforce the strong integration of Codian products into the TANDBERG total solution portfolio," said Håkon Dahle, TANDBERG Chief Technologist. "The TANDBERG Codian product combination provides customers with a comprehensive solution for deploying videoconferencing as part of their unified communications strategy."

High Definition is the newest set of standards for high quality video conferencing. High Definition standards have been defined by the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) as picture resolutions of 720p and 1080i/1080p. High Definition has a refresh rate of 24,25,30,50, 60 frames per second and a resolution image of 1280x720 pixels or 1920x1080 pixels. The higher number of pixels translates into sharper and clearer pictures. The higher refresh rate results in less flickering to the human eye. High Definition uses the progressive scan format rather than interlacing, treating the entire video image as one frame and does not suffer from jagged edges in the picture.
