Video Conferencing Over IP Issues? 
A Broadband connection in itself will not guarantee perfect delivery of video. If you experience break-up of audio or video, the most likely cause of the problem will be traffic on the 'network' and NOT a faulty codec.
Arguably, some codecs can handle errors better than others but if you are experiencing problems at all, look at the in call statistics, that will often confirm that packets are lost (or so late they are considered lost). Real time applications require a consistent flow of data, they can tolerate a delay but variances in delay (jitter) can only be tolerated in small doses.
Problem causes can be difficult to isolate, particularly if you are dealing with the internet. xDSL services are designed to a cost rather than to perform for real time applications, you will often get away with a good service but learn to expect what you pay for. Consider why many organisations pay thousands for what you only pay hundreds (or less) for. Wider, faster paths with managed traffic.
That said, thousands of users communicate over xDSL broadband links with only occasional problems.
They get stuck in 'Electronic Traffic' and have problems attending the meeting. Better than being stuck in a car, train or plane!
